Hello and a warm welcome to Onorah Holistic Therapies, my name is Kirsteen and I am a fully qualified reflexologist. I provide treatments from my peaceful treatment room within my home in Milton of Leys, Inverness. Offering a safe and confidential space where my clients can relax and receive support.
Alongside my reflexology work, I am also a pupil support assistant in a school for pupils with additional support needs. Before this, I was a registered nurse but after 15 years I made the decision to leave nursing due to family circumstances. It was at this time, I decided to study Clinical Reflexology through the Complementary Therapy School.
My own journey with reflexology began a number of years ago, when we were trying to start our family and I started having regular treatments myself. Experiencing the benefits of reflexology first hand sparked a real interest in me and I always felt drawn to the idea of studying it one day. I have always found it really fascinating and it continues to amaze me every day.

Reflexology is a complementary therapy, it is natural and non-invasive. It involves treating the person holistically, which means looking at the whole person: mind, body and spirit. It is an ancient technique where specific points on the feet, face and hands are stimulated or massaged to tap into the corresponding parts of the body. This encourages the body’s natural, healing process to take place. Bringing about balance within the body.
Time to relax, unwind and let the stresses of everyday life slip away with reflexology.
It is suitable for all ages, from babies to older people and everyone else in between.
Reflexology can be traced back thousands of years, with evidence found in ancient Egypt, China and India. Early illustrations from around 2500 BC were found in the tomb of Ankhmahor in Egypt. The modern form of reflexology began to take shape in the early 1900's when it was introduced to the West by Dr Fitzgerald when he developed 'zone therapy.' He believed that reflex areas were linked to different areas of the body within the same zone. In the 1930's, Eunice Ingham who was a physiotherapist and used the zone therapy with her patients. She found some areas were more effective and responsive than others. She further developed the zone theory into what is known as Reflexology. She believed that congestion and tension in any part of the foot is mirrored in the corresponding part of the body.

FRT is a combination of relaxation techniques drawn from reflexology. It has been developed to support children and adults of all ages with additional needs, complex needs and high levels of anxiety. It is also a beneficial experience for more vulnerable adults with dementia and Alzheimer's. Applying these techniques encourages the body to release 'feel good hormones' which allows the body to relax, improve a person's mood, reduce anxiety and support well-being.

Your relaxation time can now begin!
After you have removed your shoes and socks, you will head over to the comfy massage table and you will have the option of a duvet or cosy blanket. Once you are comfortable, I will then start by using warm towels to cleanse your feet and then apply the Songbird reflexology wax to your feet. This aids the movement of my hands over your feet. I also do a short breathing exercise, encouraging the mind and body to unwind. Pressure will then be applied to the different reflex points on your feet.
Once you are lying down and are comfortable on the massage table, I will offer you a head band to put on to prevent your hair from getting greasy with the oils. Light pressure is applied from the elbow up towards the head. Cleansing balm or cleansing oil and warm pads are used to cleanse the skin. A face oil will then be applied and pressure will be applied to the different reflex points on the face. Warm towels will be used to remove the oil and a soothing toner will be applied at the end of the treatment. I may do a short breathing exercise towards the start of the treatment, to encourage the mind and body to unwind.
You do not need to undress for this treatment but some clients find it comfier with a light weight vest top on or t-shirt rather than heavy jumpers or tops.
Every person is unique, so the number of sessions can vary depending on your individual needs and goals. Some people feel the benefits after just one session, while others may find a course of regular treatments more helpful, especially if you have an ongoing condition or stress. We can discuss this and see what feels right for you.
Most people feel deeply relaxed and some feel more energised. Occasionally, you may experience mild reactions such as tiredness or emotional release. This is the body's natural balancing process.
Be kind to yourself and listen to your body.
If you have a verruca, we may be able to cover it and work around it. Unfortunately I won't be able to if you have fungal infection or athletes foot.
Reflexology does not claim to cure but it can be used as a support mechanism for many illnesses. Everyone responds differently, so the only way you will know if it is going to help you with your particular situation, is to give it a try.
Reflexology can be surprising with the effect it can have.
Reflexology is a complementary therapy and can be used alongside other medical treatments. It should not be used as a substitute to seeking medical advice from your Doctor or other medical professional.
Reflexologists do not diagnose or treat specific medical conditions.
